How we test our tools and write our guides

PDF to Word Free is built and run by one developer, Vaibhav Dhama. This page explains, plainly, how the tools are checked and how the guides on this site are written.

Testing the tools

The conversion code has an automated unit test suite that runs on every push and pull request, together with a full site build. The tests cover the logic around each conversion — request validation, choosing between conversion engines, error handling, and the warnings shown to you.

Beyond the automated tests, Vaibhav Dhama checks the output of every tool by hand with real documents. For the conversion tools, that includes the cases that tend to cause trouble: scanned and digital PDFs, large files, password-protected files, uncommon fonts, multi-column layouts, and complex tables.

The automated tests do not compare converted output against reference files, and we don't publish accuracy figures. Conversion quality depends heavily on the file you upload: scanned PDFs, unusual fonts, multi-column layouts, and complex tables can all come out imperfectly. When a tool detects a likely problem, it shows a warning with your result. Always check an important document before you rely on it.

How the guides are written

The guides on the blog are AI-assisted: they are drafted with the help of an AI writing tool. Each guide is then reviewed by Vaibhav Dhama before it is published. Vaibhav checks the wording of every guide personally.

Review is not the same as re-testing every step. Menu paths and keyboard shortcuts in other software, such as Microsoft Word or Google Docs, change over time, so a guide may be out of date in places.

When we find that a guide is wrong, we correct it. A revised guide shows an Updated date on the article and in the blog listing.

Corrections and feedback

If a guide is wrong, out of date, or unclear, or a tool isn't behaving the way a guide says it should, tell us on the Contact page and we'll fix it.

Your files

Most tools process your file in memory on our server and keep nothing once your download is ready. A few conversions use a trusted third-party engine for quality; in those cases your file is sent securely, used only to complete your conversion, and not retained.
