Why you send the PDF, not the .docx

A Word file does not carry its own appearance. It describes the document and leaves whatever opens it to supply the fonts, spacing, and page breaks — which is why a .docx that looked immaculate on your machine can reach a colleague with substituted typefaces, shifted tables, and a stray extra page. A PDF settles all of that at conversion time: the layout you approve here is the layout that arrives, whether it opens on a phone, a Mac, or an office PC with no Word licence at all.

Which Word files are supported?

Both the older .doc format and the modern .docx format convert here, up to 25 MB per file — enough for long, image-heavy documents. A password-protected Word document should have its password removed in Word first (File → Info → Protect Document), since an encrypted file cannot be read. Formatting survives because the conversion renders your document the way a word processor would, then freezes the result. Headings, paragraph spacing, bullet and numbered lists, tables, images, columns, headers and footers, and page numbering all carry across, and hyperlinks stay clickable in the finished PDF. What happens to your fonts
