An invoice needs “PAID” in the corner. A contract draft needs “DRAFT” until it’s final. An outgoing report needs your company’s seal on every page. None of these are a signature — they’re a stamp, and they need to land the same way on every page without you clicking through the document twice.
These get confused because they all “mark” a PDF, but they solve different problems. A signature is personal and usually appears once — your name, agreeing to a document. A stamp is a short badge or mark, text or an image, placed in one spot and repeated identically on every page. A watermark is a mark tiled across the whole page, often at an angle, typically for something like “CONFIDENTIAL.” If what you need is “APPROVED” in the top-right corner of a 40-page report, that’s a stamp — not a signature, and not a watermark.
