Resolution matters as much as format: Normal (150 DPI) is enough for viewing on a screen or attaching to an email, while High (300 DPI) is worth the larger file size if you’re printing the result, since print reveals resolution that a screen hides.

This comes up more often than it sounds like it would — uploading to a platform that only accepts images rather than PDFs, dropping a page into a slide or design tool where you need a fixed graphic rather than an embedded document, generating a quick preview of what’s on a page without anyone opening the full PDF, or sending a file to a printing or photo lab service that expects image files specifically.
